A Very Merry Christmas to All in 2011

I want to take this opportunity to wish all who may see this a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Once again this year, we took up an annual honor to assist our friend, Harry Breen, in decorating the altar at Holy Cross church here in Champaign. Actually, Kathy did most of the assisting while I stole around the church taking photos – with my newly acquired Canon 7D equipped with a 24-70mm f2.8 lensĀ (retirement gift to me!).

Holy Cross is a beautiful church and much of the credit for the interior design goes to Harry. His artwork appears throughout the sanctuary and the altar decoration throughout the year is done under his all-seeing eye. We feel like apprentices working under a master.

Christmas is obviously a special event in the church and the altar is classically adorned. The figures are unique and from Italy and I took a number especially to get the details of the figures that one cannot get from sitting in the sanctuary.

I hope my images do justice to this occasion. As always, Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve promises to be a highlight of the year. Merry Christmas everyone!
