A view of my world in Central Illinois and places we go.

Harry Breen Skies

Harry Breen is a great artist and a good friend of ours. Harry’s landscape paintings inevitably include wonderful and often tumultuous skies. I often gaze at the sky looking for interesting clouds. He and I agree that cloudless skies are boring to paint, or for me, to photograph. And, in Illinois, as flat as it is, our sky dominates the landscape. Based on a recent article in the News-Gazette, Champaign County is the second “flatest” county in Illinois. So, around here one should embrace the Illinois sky!

During this summer drought, clouds have been few and far between. Things have cooled a little bit, and we’ve had a few showers, but the drought continues. Rain threatened a few days ago and made for some interesting light and shadow above the horizon. Here are a few of my favorites from that afternoon, all from northern Champaign County.
